Desert Dryness Continues

Well, the very dry conditions have continued since my last post. It has remained desert dry with very little rain. Needless to say, I have been watering. Despite the lack of rain, the garden continues to grow pretty well. Everything this year seems to be about 2 weeks ahead of normal. I harvested my first head of broccoli on June 2nd. I have more heads of broccoli ready to harvest (see first pic above). The warmer than normal weather has started to affect the peas (see second pic above). They do not appear to be growing as well as they should. I will have to give them some more water and hope for the best. My new 3 foot tall pea fence seems to be working out well. From that second pic you can also see my beans, both bush and pole limas, growing in the area behind the peas. All of the warm season vegetables are loving the warm weather and are growing fine. I will have to water my tomatoes soon as they appear to be wilting just a bit. My cucumbers are growing like mad and I saw three small cucumbers developing on the vines today. Despite the dry conditions, my onions are growing really well (see third pic above). I have been making sure that I water them at least twice a week. You can also see from this pic that my spring planted lettuce is mature and the few plants I have left in the garden will either be harvested or pulled up soon. I have started to replant the lettuce area with more heat tolerant varieties like buttercrunch.
Guess what I will be doing this weekend in the garden........................WATERING!!!!!!!
