Very Cold, Last of the 07 Garden Harvest

As you can see from my thermometer pictured to the left, it has been very cold here. I recorded a low of -1.1 degrees Fahrenheit about four days ago. About two weeks ago I harvested the rest of my garden carrots that were under a hoop. That is the last of the garden harvest for the 2007 growing season. Despite the cold, I know spring is not too far off. I will be ordering my seeds and supplies for the 2008 growing season within the next week. If the weather cooperates, I might try to get my cold frame put together in another 3 weeks or so. Also, I hope to be starting my first lettuce seeds indoors in about another 3 weeks. Happy Gardening!!

I found your blog today and have enjoyed reading it off and on throughout the day. I am in NW Ohio, probably half a zone north, so it is nice to see SFG done in an area similar to mine. I plan on starting small in the spring with two 4x2 boxes at the foundation. By summer I'd like to add in a 4x4 bed as well.

We have four kids, so growing some food would help ease the budget, not to mention that I love flower gardening and what vegetabels/fruits I've been able to grow before the twins came.

I have to start small, though, and work it into the routine. The older two are excited to help and have helped me plan what we want to plant. Slow and steady, maybe by this time next year I'll be planning a large spring bed in order to take greens to our local farmer market (which seriously lacks in greens!)

Thanks for sharing your journal and photos, I'll keep checking in.
